The MLA Hospital Libraries Section strives to recognize the significant accomplishments of its members. Awards that recognize such accomplishments also serve to advance the profession by spotlighting success.
Award recipients must be current members of HLS at both the time of nomination and presentation at the annual MLA conference.
DEADLINE: March 1, 2012
Professional Development Award
The Professional Development Award is to recognize those papers and/or posters at the MLA Annual Meeting that best represent hospital librarianship. If an HLS member has had an abstract or poster accepted by MLA for the 2011 meeting, the member would qualify. Up to four $500.00 awards will be presented each year to enable one to offset expenditures in order to attend and present during the annual Medial Library Association meeting.

Scroll of Exemplary Service
Exemplary means serving as an example to others. This award recognizes members who have made a difference in advancing the cause of hospital librarianship over the past year (June – May). Activities such as leadership, publishing, service, and/or management of special projects/events. It is not the quantity of services, but the quality of at least one service that obtains a person a place on the scroll.
The scroll is cumulative from its inception in 2002. Once a person has been awarded a place on the scroll it is permanent for as long as they are a member of HLS. The names of those who are no longer members of HLS are removed annually.
