HLS Awards

The MLA Hospital Libraries Section strives to recognize the significant accomplishments of its members. Awards that recognize such accomplishments also serve to advance the profession by spotlighting success.  Please consider nominating a colleague for one or more of these awards.

***Award recipients must be current members of HLS at both the time of nomination and presentation at the annual MLA conference (verified by the annual membership list which is published in the first quarter of every year).***

2009 DEADLINE: MARCH 15, 2009 (The deadline has been extended to this date.)

Professional Recognition Award

An award presented to outstanding HLS members. Individuals who have contributed laudably to the field of hospital librarianship may be nominated in the following categories:  Leadership, Publication, Research, and Technological Innovation.  Please click on the link labled 'Criteria' below for more specific evaluation criteria for each area.
Catch A Rising Star

An award that honors members who have been in the profession five years or less, yet have already shown great promise in the field of hospital librarianship through professionalism and/or leadership.
Scroll of Exemplary Service

Exemplary means serving as an example to others.  This award recognizes members who have made a difference in advancing the cause of hospital librarianship over the past year (June - May). Activities such as leadership, publishing, service,  and/or management of special projects/events.  It is not the quantity of services, but the quality of at least one service that obtains a person a place on the scroll.

The scroll is cumulative from its inception in 2002-once a person has been awarded a place on the croll it is permament for as long as they are a member of HLS.  The names of those who are no longer members of HLS are removed annually.
2009 Professional Development Committee Awards Recipients:
Peg Allen
Cathy Boss
Julie Esparza
Congratulations!
Please note: This year there is an addendum to the annual HLS award process.  For the first time there were seven monetary awards offered: four from the HLS Travel Grant @$500.00 each and three from the Professional Development Committee @$250.00.  It was decided by a majority vote of the sixteen member HLS Executive Board that While HLS members can apply for multiple HLS awards, HLS should offer only one annual monetary award per person.  There was a separate committee of judges for each award.  The HLS Travel Award deadline and decision came first, followed by the Professional Develpment Committee Award decisions.  We hope to be able to offer two sets of monetary awards next year as well.
